Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes – Mont Blanc
The river Rhone and the Alps give the region its name. Above everything towers the Mont Blanc, with 4.810 m the highest mountain of the Alps.
Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes is the most favourite winter destination in the country. World famous skiing resorts can be found mainly in the Départements Savoie and Haute-Savoie. Hundreds of pistes and slopes wait for you, for example, at Les 3 Vallées and its well known towns of Méribel or Val Thorens, in Portes du Soleil, including Morzine or Avoriaz or in Les Sybelles with its six belles, in other words – six beautiful skiing areas. And these are only a few of the Ski-Giants!
The capital of the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region is Lyon. On a clear day in summer, one can see the Mont Blanc Massif from some terraces of the town.
