Bergen
Beautiful Bergen, the second largest city in Norway, is often referred to as “The city between the seven mountains”. The city was founded by the Viking King Olav Kyrre in 1070 and given the name Bjørgvin – “the green meadow between the mountains”. Until the 1830s it was the largest city in the country, and a commercial and seafaring city of major European importance. The old cultural monuments at Bergen pier are registered on Unesco’s list of world heritage sites.
